An Epic Boxing Bout of the Century

So much speculation has happened about this long awaited battle of the fists. Though it has been scheduled in the venue of the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and air on May 2, 2015. One can’t simply help to still be skeptical as to know if this match will actually take place due to past interferences. Both sides have been teetering on opposing issues which has delayed this boxing match for over a decade.

While Manny Pacquiao has always tried to meet Floyd Mayweather Jr. halfway on his requests, Mayweather would always find a way to back out of any potential meeting. For some reason, there have been no hiccups this time around. The final terms were agreed upon with Manny Pacquiao raking in only 40% of the the proceeds, while Floyd Mayweather Jr. brings in the rest. It’s obvious that Pacquiao isn’t doing this for the money, he’s just as anxious as any of us to see this fight happen.

While seat pricing may vary from just under $4200 to a little over $26,000 per ticket via ticketnetwork, the rumored television price is said to be $95 per order. Depending on the outcome in sales of both seating and televisied equivalent, the projected revenue built upon this boxing bout will reach anywhere from about $250M to $350M. That’s no chump change in any way, shape, or form. This figure itself, marks the biggest payout to ANY professional athlete around the globe.

There’s no question that Floyd Mayweather has an unorthodox fighting style. He makes it almost look too easy when winning a match. By using a defensive scheme with a mixture of well targeted jabs and hooks, he’s earned the acclaimed “perfect defense” tag associated with his perfect record. He has never known the taste of defeat. While his fans believe he is the greatest boxer of all time, there are those who believe otherwise. The question to whether his fights were all legit, leaves skepticism in why these critics call him “The Moneyman”.

As for Manny Pacquiao, it’s no wonder why he’s held titles in 8 different weight classes. He is undoubtedly a physical force to be reckoned with. The shear power displayed on the faces of his opponents after the fights, show you he means business. Though Pacquiao doesn’t have much of a defensive strategy tagged to his name, one can wonder how he will overcome his next opponent’s tight defense. Maybe he’ll incorporate one of his own, in the gaps of offensive opportunities.

No one in this world is perfect, and Mayweather just might realize that truth. All success is marked with failure. While numbers don’t lie, it is clear that no matter how many times you go into a boxing ring, one fighter comes out a loser. But just like numbers, the envitable is bound to happen. Can Floyd Mayweather beat the odds and retain a perfect record? Or will his number be up and find himself in the clutches of defeat? Can Manny Pacquiao penetrate the “perfect defense”? Will he finally show the world what he’s made of? Whatever the outcome, this will be an epic boxing bout of the century.
